IF YOU ASK EVONNE...

We first met in 2014 during our analyst training at Deutsche Bank. At the time, I was in a relationship, and Stephen was single. We quickly became close friends. Even though we didn't hang out much outside of work, we had good chemistry, and bantered with each other on Bloomberg almost every day. It didn’t take long for our fellow analysts to notice our dynamic; rumors even circulated that our Secret Santa exchange was rigged when Stephen ended up with my name.

In my eyes, Stephen was living his best life, inviting me constantly to AYCE frat sushi and parties he and his six other roommates threw. I took him up on these invites once, maybe twice. One night, we ended up at Juke Bar in the East Village during a night out with our analyst class, and both had one too many drinks. My then-boyfriend came to pick me up and bring me food. While he was at the table, a slightly tipsy Stephen made a valiant, albeit unsuccessful, attempt to edge my boyfriend out of his seat. Understandably, this did not go over well with my boyfriend, and Stephen and I drifted apart for nearly two years.

Fast forward to November 27, 2016. A mutual friend was in town, and after dinner together, we all ended up at my apartment. After an entire bottle of Goslings 151 proof rum, Stephen passed out on my couch. Despite the time apart, the connection between us was undeniable. Our first official date at Pouring Ribbons in the East Village involved five Sazeracs (each), and once again, Stephen ended up crashing on my couch, then conveniently left his tie at my place presumably so he could ask me out again.

That night marked the beginning of many more adventurous dates, including our first homemade dumplings on Chinese New Year and our inaugural ski trip to Okemo. Just two months later, Stephen asked me to be his girlfriend, and although it felt like we had known each other forever, I took a week to think it over before saying yes on February 28, 2017.

IF YOU ASK STEPHEN...

I first set eyes on Evonne when the two of us were in London for the Deutsche Bank analyst training program. The back of her head caught my attention in the classroom, and I would always take note when she was absent for consecutive days (she was gallivanting around Europe at music festivals). Evonne will say that we never really crossed paths during training because I was “unwisely” hanging out with the Londoners rather than the NYC analysts. While this may be partly true, I’d counter with the fact that Evonne paid me no attention anyways and had her own cool kids crew.

Back in NYC after training, the rotational process where we needed to match with a desk began. Evonne worked diligently to beat out all the other analysts that were gunning for the hottest desk at the time (securitization); meanwhile, I sort of just stumbled into my dream job with the municipals desk. I still work with that same amazing team today.

The two of us started interacting more and more once we found our homes at DB. We would chat about analyst gossip, random news articles, and a whole lot of nothing. Even if there was nothing to talk about, we would always ping each other on Bloomberg every morning just to say hi. I thought that there might be something there…

Then comes the infamous "bao" story. After an analyst drinks event, we all decided to go out in the East Village to a little dive called Juke Bar. I decided that this was my time to shoot my shot. We spent the entire night talking, and I could see that she had that sparkle in her eyes. After a few more rounds of drinks, a mysterious man showed up carrying a bag. He brought out a takeout container of pan fried buns (dumplings, "bao") and was trying, quite desperately, to give it to Evonne. I thought this was totally weird so I tried to smoothly nudge him out of our conversation. It’s been rumored (but not verified) that I may have even tried to repeatedly stand in between Evonne and this random bao person. Well, this person ended up being Evonne’s long-time boyfriend. Yikes.

Understandably, our relationship started to fizzle out after that fateful night. Evonne ended up leaving DB to join the team she still works with to this day at Rithm, and I stayed at DB. It seemed like this was the end of the road for us two.

A few years later, after bao guy was out of the picture, a mutual friend at DB ended up reconnecting us. The three of us went over to Evonne’s place after dinner, and Evonne and I immediately clicked again like we did that night at Juke Bar. The night ended with me passing out on her couch after being over-served on overproof rum. The day after, Evonne hit me up on Bloomberg for the first time in 2 years. We had a proper first date a week or so later, where we drank 5 Sazeracs each at Pouring Ribbons…

The rest, they say, is history.

In the seven and half years since, we have created countless memories together. We are so grateful you are part of our story and can't wait to celebrate with you on our big day!
